The online dating website OneNightPartners.com advertises with free registration and appears to be legit and trustworthy at first sight. According to the landing page, the site’s members pool is filled with thousands of singles, who are looking for some new dating adventures. Furthermore, the portal promises to be safe and secure, and even offers a “dating safety tips” section. However, after we read the terms and conditions and do some research on the internet, OneNightPartners.com turns out to be a rip-off.
Immediately after the free registration, new users receive some enticing messages. Unfortunately, these messages only appear to be sent by real members of the site, but in fact, they are fake. Their only purpose is to make users want to reply quickly. To be able to reply, users unavoidably must purchase a paid premium-membership subscription first. Unfortunately, many users fall for this scam. Encouraged by the promising messages, they are hoping to find someone for a date and are even willing to pay, if that is what it takes. However, as the messages are not created by real people, but rather by chatbots or hired moderators, it is highly unlikely that any chat conversation can ever result in a real-life date.
In the terms and conditions, we find the following note
“Once in a while, we may invite members to use ‘Promote My Profile’ service through Account Settings. After the activation of this ability, we will automatically get permission to broadcast custom messages created by any user or select any random message from the template list. It is our right and responsibility to choose members for the ‘Promote My Account’ service. The process of sending messages through this service will be free, still, the member who sees and wants to reply to the messages, needs to have an upgraded and valid Paid Membership. Each message sent with the purpose of promotion through ‘Promote My Profile’ will be marked accordingly in the recipient’s inbox. We reserve the right to modify any fees payable to senders or recipients at any time”.
Possible subscription trap
Once users are signed up for the paid subscription and start initiating a chat conversation, they are unlikely to get any further replies. Furthermore, the membership subscriptions renew automatically, if they are not terminated in time. In our experience, many users miss the termination deadline and consequently end up in a long and expensive subscription trap. The operator of OneNightPartners.com is Knowledge Gate Ltd, which is based in Hong Kong.
