These fictitious profiles trick users into thinking other real users are genuinely interested in them. According to the Terms and Conditions, the purpose of having fake profiles is to ‘enhance the adult experience.’ This is a typical term used to cover a scam intended to rip off users by having them spend money for an unreliable service. HotOnlineHookup.com is run by a company called Oxygen Mind LTD, and might be headquartered in La Vrangue, Guernsey.

After a mere ten minutes of reviewing the members’ page of HotOnlineHookup.com, we were inundated with explicit messages from numerous profiles. However, after attempting to determine whether the profiles were authentic or not, we were suddenly told by the site to verify our age before we could experience the platform even further. We were redirected to a screen that requested our credit card information as a method of verification, despite the site’s claim of being completely free to use. This verification method is suspicious and definitely unnecessary.

There didn’t appear to be a way to pay or sign up for a subscription. The only way to get access was to provide our credit card information to prove our age.
