The online dating website FreeHookupAffair.com advertises with free registration. Already the name of the dating portal gives us the impression that here we can find a sex date in no time and for free. In a nutshell, the advertisement and the offer sound very good. Sad but true, it is wrong. The information on the landing page is irritating and just made up to trick the user.
We did some research and found a few negative reviews about the dating website and its operator. The operator is the Passage Controls Limited which is in Cyprus. Already the location of the company gives us a first hint that this portal is non-reputable.
The scam of the operator always follows the same steps. The registration is for free and well-advertised. This way, a visitor might assume that the use of the website is free as well. But this is not the case. To get in touch with others, a new member needs a paid premium membership.
In the terms and conditions, we read that the subscription for the paid premium-membership will renew automatically. With $39.95, a paid premium membership is quite expensive. But the operator offers a trial premium membership, which is where the rip off takes places.
Here is an excerpt of the terms and conditions
“Trial Memberships are automatically renewed to a one-month membership at the then-applicable monthly rate, subject to the terms of the Trial Offer below. The maximum Term of this Agreement is 120 months.”
So a trial premium membership will be automatically renewed, no matter if the user is happy with his membership or not. Plus the automatic renewal has a maximum agreement of 120 months. If you fall for the trap and the membership will extend up to 120 months, your bill will be $4.794.
But as far as we can see a paid premium-membership is not worth a dime. We read in the terms and conditions the word “entertainment” right on the top. It is a hint that the website uses fake profiles. Those fake profiles are operated by fake operators which entice the user to buy a membership and to stay on the site. But as the clear evidence is missing, we can only point out that some reviews on the internet mention a fake chat on other websites of the Passage Controls Limited as well.
