Flirtsmeet.com is a dating portal for people looking for casual relationships and hookups. The page is part of a network run by an operator who is based in Nicosia, Cyprus, and who is managing hundreds of various dating portals, always under a different cover name. This time he operates under the name FlirtsMeet. The reputation of the company is horrible, and all their websites are nothing more than a big rip-off. Usually, they are scamming people by implementing moderated chats operated by paid moderators to animate the naïve users to spend a lot of money on useless conversations.
Nevertheless, we want to have a more in-depth look into this cheeky operation and start the investigation. First, we check some simple facts about the website FlirtsMeet.com. The portal has approximately 1 million users worldwide, most of them in the USA and Europe. The average age of the members is between 25-35 years. Looking at the profile pictures however, we tend to think that the average age is significantly higher.
Easy and fast enrolment process.
Signing up at FlirtsMeet.com is fast and easy and done in less than five minutes. Account activation is done through email, and a profile photo and more information can be added later. It is essential to know that the profile will remain invisible until you upload an image.
Once on the main page, the design of FlirtsMeet.com is clean, and the interface guarantees easy navigation. "Search" and "Like Gallery" are the two primary feature tabs on the header menu. On the right side, we can find the rest of the usual features. The main part of the page displays the member profiles.
But we do not have time to surf through any of the profiles, because just minutes after we have arrived on the main page, the rip-off takes its course. The first proof that the website FlirtsMeet.com is a scam we find on the landing page by reading the small print:
“By proceeding I acknowledge and agree that this Site includes Online Cupids® which are fantasy profiles operated by the Site for entertainment and compliance. Online Cupids® may interact with users to encourage full participation in the Site's services, procedures, and options.”
The faked profiles, or as the operator calls them "Cupids", are managed by paid moderators. They have only one goal, which is to animate the members to chat and spend as much money as possible. The trick is straightforward because without upgrading your membership, you cannot participate in any communication. The free membership is totally useless, and an upgrade is essential.
Also, in the terms and conditions, the website admits the fictitious profiles:
“You understand, acknowledge, and agree that some of the user profiles posted on this site may be fictitious and operated by the Site or its contractors.”
Another red flag is the subscriptions. They all have an automatic renewal policy if not cancelled on time. We read plenty of testimonies on the internet where former members complain about this fact and were having a hard time to terminate their recurring memberships.
Excerpt from the terms and conditions:
“IF YOU PAY FOR A MEMBERSHIP BY CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD (OR OTHER PAYMENT METHOD INVOLVING AN AUTOMATICALLY RENEWING MEMBERSHIP) AND YOU DO NOT CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP PRIOR TO THE END OF THE TERM, YOUR MEMBERSHIP WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY EXTENDED AT THE END OF EACH TERM FOR SUCCESSIVE RENEWAL PERIODS OF THE SAME DURATION AS THE ORIGINAL MEMBERSHIP TERM.”
