At first sight, LocalsJoy.com looks like a great choice for everyone who is searching for a soulmate. The initial page displays the image of a stunning young woman and invites the readers to join the best online dating platform. Their slogan is simple yet incredibly effective: register, find, love. The privacy of any user is ensured by a new message encrypting system that will keep their secrets locked.
The registration is quick and easy. All that is needed is an email address, a password, and a username. There is no verification, therefore a new profile will be active in just a matter of seconds. As soon as we get access to the member's area, we start to receive messages from wonderful ladies. We know from experience that this is a bit suspicious because we did not even upload a profile picture. There is no reason why an account like that is so popular, unless the incoming messages are fake.
As we always do, we take a closer look at the Terms and Conditions. After carefully reading every small note, we finally found what we were looking for. LocalsJoy.com contains fake profiles, which are created by Digital International Inc, the company from the Marshall Islands which runs this portal. These accounts are not identified separately in the system. Therefore, there is no way to distinguish them from genuine profiles or admitting that there are any. The result of this scam is that a user cannot trust anybody.
The following note is from the Terms and Conditions
We may, from time to time, create profiles which are created, maintained, and managed by our employees (“Staff Profiles”).
That is not all
When a new member receives so many messages, he does not know that they are fake. To read them and eventually reply, he needs to buy a premium membership. The most obvious choice is the 1-day trial package, which is sold at just €0.49. It looks like the ideal option, but it is a trap.
This subscription will be automatically converted into a much more expensive monthly package. According to the Terms and Conditions, a user can avoid that by requesting a cancellation 24 hours before the expiration date. Since the termination of the contract is not possible, this is a subscription rip-off.
