    Report for MeetPeople.org.uk review

MeetPeople.org.uk is an online dating website that seems just right to meet new people. However, through our investigation, we realized something strange happens almost immediately. The landing page promises free registration and open chats. Yet only the registration turns out to be free. To chat with other members, the user must pay for a membership. This ends in a subscription scam because the membership is automatically renewed. We also discovered that it is a fake chat rip-off because they use fake profiles to entertain users.

The company behind this page is Cintilet Limited, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. The company is famous for running several online dating websites, and they all have negative reviews, including this platform.

    Details on the MeetPeople.org.uk review

At a first sight, the website looks like a good way to meet new people and potentially have real-life dates. The landing page is very appealing for several reasons. It provides general information explaining why it is the best website to meet new people. They promise free registration and free messaging with other users. Plus, there is open access to their photos, and the possibility of organizing actual dates. They talk about costs too. They assure you that the website is open to use after registering, without the need to pay a membership.

Here is the excerpt from the terms and conditions

Join today, create your profile then start chatting it is completely free to join, message members, view their profiles and photos, and arrange to meet up.

It all looks way too good, so we decide to investigate further and check whether this is a scam. What they explain in the terms and conditions is false. You must pay to be able to talk to users. After discovering this, we turned to reviews from former members about their experiences.

    Negative user reviews

Despite the good first impression, every former member’s review we stumble upon is negative. They all claim they have been chatting with fake profiles and feel ripped-off. We then decide to dig deeper and read the site’s Terms and Conditions, where we find some clues which confirm that it is a potential rip-off.

Here is the excerpt from the terms and conditions

From time to time, the Company employees (or employees of its parent or affiliated companies) may create test dating profiles for the purpose of checking and testing the functionality of our Website and Service to improve the quality and user experience for its Users.

This makes it clear that MeetPeople.org.uk is an “entertainment” site only. So, it is a fake chat rip-off since the site lures users into a series of chats they must pay for. These chats are directed by fake chat operators. The website says users can chat with other members for free. However, engaging with another member is not going to be possible unless users pay for a membership.

    Membership cancellation process is complicated

Once users fall for it and decide to pay in order to chat, they will automatically become VIP members. The site will automatically renew their membership every time. If they want to cancel it, that is where the problems begin. To cancel the membership, users must start by sending a support ticket. After that, they will have to send a notice to the operator via regular mail.

On top of that, this needs to be done at least 5 days prior to the automatic renewal. This is a complicated process. The site fails to make it clear by writing it in tiny characters. This is how users get ripped off, thus creating a subscription trap.

The page is run by Cintilet Limited, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. The company also manages other similar sites, all with negative user reviews.

The conclusion from our MeetPeople.org.uk review

Despite initially looking like a legitimate dating website, MeetPeople.org.uk is a site for entertainment only. This rang the first alarm bell and lead us to discover that it is a fake chat rip-off as well as a subscription scam.
